Terms of Service

These terms govern your use of Shadow Typer (“the Service”). By signing in, you agree to them.
1. The Service
Shadow Typer is a free tool that writes text you provide into a Google Doc on a schedule you configure, including simulated typos and revisions. The Service is provided as-is.
2. Your account
You sign in using a Google account. You are responsible for the security of that account. We rely on Google’s authentication; if your Google credentials are compromised, an attacker can use Shadow Typer. You can revoke our access at any time via myaccount.google.com/permissions.
3. Acceptable use
You agree NOT to use Shadow Typer to:
- Misrepresent authorship in a context where doing so causes harm, violates the rules of an institution you’re subject to (e.g., academic integrity policies), or breaks any law
- Write content that is illegal, defamatory, harassing, infringing, sexually explicit involving minors, or otherwise prohibited by law in the jurisdictions you operate in
- Attempt to reverse-engineer, scrape, or attack the Service or its infrastructure
- Use the Service in a way that would cause us to violate Google’s API terms or any other third-party terms
You are solely responsible for the content you ask Shadow Typer to write and for the consequences of using it in any setting (school, workplace, contract, publication).
4. Content ownership
You own the text you paste in and the Google Docs we write into on your behalf. We claim no ownership over your content. We need a limited license to store, process, and write your content for the sole purpose of operating the Service; that license ends when you delete the relevant job or your account.
5. Free service, no SLA
The Service is currently provided free of charge. We make no uptime guarantee. We may modify, suspend, or discontinue the Service at any time. If we discontinue it, we will give reasonable notice and an opportunity for you to retrieve your data.
6. Termination
You may stop using the Service at any time by signing out and revoking OAuth access. You may request account deletion by emailing support@shadowtyper.ca. We may suspend or terminate your account if you violate these terms, with notice where practical.
7. Disclaimers
THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE,” WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING WITHOUT LIMITATION WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT.
8. Limitation of liability
TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, IN NO EVENT WILL SHADOW TYPER, ITS OPERATORS, OR ITS CONTRIBUTORS BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR ANY LOSS OF PROFITS OR DATA, ARISING OUT OF OR RELATED TO YOUR USE OF THE SERVICE. OUR TOTAL LIABILITY TO YOU FOR ALL CLAIMS WILL NOT EXCEED CAD $50.
9. Indemnity
You agree to indemnify and hold Shadow Typer harmless from claims arising out of (a) your content, (b) your use of the Service, or (c) your violation of these terms.
10. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario, Canada, without regard to conflict-of-law principles. Disputes will be resolved in the courts of Ontario.
11. Changes
We may update these terms. Material changes will be announced on this page and the “Last updated” date above will change. Continued use of the Service after a change means you accept the new terms.
